You’re knee deep in wedding planning, but have you thought about the cake?
If you haven’t thought about your wedding cake yet, you might under-estimate the length of time needed to ‘book in’ and order your cake, as well as the price a wedding cake might set you back.
Top tip: get ordering early, especially if you’re getting married around Christmas, New Year’s or during the peak summer months.

Widely known across the country for delicious cake postal boxes, the enigmatic Una of 2210 Patisserie has become popular amongst the ‘in’ Irish-celeb-crowd and the general cake loving public. The cost of a two-tier custom cake starts at around €265 and does not include delivery. Additional extras include the ever-popular chocolate drip (€50 extra) and iced name plates (€10 extra) for example. You’ll find a wide range of flavours available from lemon meringue, carrot and walnut, red velvet, Nutella, chocolate biscuit cake, raspberry and white chocolate and many others.

Specialising in creative sugar work and figures, the team at Amazing Cakes recently showcased their works at the RDS Wedding Fair. Creating layered bakes in various flavours including chocolate with orange buttercream, Bailey’s sponge cake, strawberry madeira, toffee caramel and even a traditional rich fruit cake depending on your tastes.

Fresh florals, sugar work and other intricate details make these cakes something special. The queen of buttercream, Laura Colhoun has become one of the major players in Ireland’s patisserie scene, particularly for events and weddings. With silky smooth buttercream skills and incorporating both fresh and edible flowers and fruit – the aesthetics of Laura’s cakes are definitely worthy of an Instagram shot. Flavours include coconut and raspberry, cookies and cream, rose and pistachio as well as classics like raspberry and white chocolate and lemon drizzle. 6” celebration cakes start at €75 and 8” start at €100, depending on the size of your party and your budget – this could be a good option.

Cove Cake Design is a luxury and boutique cakery, with features in Vogue – it’s unsurprising that the team are one of the most sought after suppliers for anyone planning a wedding. The flavour selection available at Cove Cake Design is intriguing and experimental, and we’ve heard from friends that they are truly delicious; flavour combos include white mocha and whiskey salted caramel, chocolate orange olive oil rosemary hazelnut and Earl Grey tea lavender and lemon. The entry price for boutique (ie. non-bespoke) wedding cakes start from €695. For a bespoke wedding cake creation, prices start at €825. Intricate and realistic sugar flowers can be added at an additional cost, with prices starting at €350.

Louisa Rogers is the talent behind Croft Cake Design. Creating incredible wedding cake creations with luxurious buttercream and ganache, Louisa uses fresh, dried and hand crafted florals, as well as gold leaf and hand painted details. These cakes are very, very pretty and the flavours are unique and experimental; courgette and chocolate, carrot and coconut, spinach vanilla and blueberry, and wild sage and strawberry to name a few. Vegan cakes and flavours are also available to order.

Cupcakes and Counting owner, Jen Rojas, is one very talented baker. Creating cakes with incredible details, these wedding cakes are perfectly pinnable on your Pinterest board. Large, layered butter cream cakes decorated with sugar flowers, gold leaf and hand painted designs. Cupcakes and Counting offers various flavours from dark chocolate Guinness cake, rocky road and a traditional vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream. Vegan cakes and flavours are also available. The Cupcakes and Counting team recommend that wedding cake bookings should be made at least nine months in advance of the wedding date, as there are only a certain number of spaces available.

Using fresh, pressed and dried florals as decoration, The Fern Cakery offers a number of elevated and luxurious flavours including; prosecco and wild strawberry, almond and apricot, raspberry and rose-water and dark chocolate with sour cherry. If you’re interested in trying these flavours, having a cake tasting if you will, there is a tasting box available for the cost of €40 (for collection) or €50 if you want to include delivery, and this can be offset against the cost of the cake.

Popular cafe The Fat Fox meet the patisserie talents of The Flour Artist making for the perfect match, especially for anyone searching for an aesthetic and delicious cake. It is recommended that orders are placed at least 30 days or 1 month in advance of the wedding date. The Fox and The Flour sit at the more affordable end of wedding cakeries in Ireland; with an extra-tall single tier cake, serving up to 40 starting at €190. Consultations can take place in both the Wicklow and Tipperary locations.
